No Scrubs by TLC

I don't want no scrub
A scrub is a guy that can't get no love from me
Hanging out the passenger side
Of his best friend's ride
Trying to holler at me

At Random, this song came into my head a few weeks ago. I'm sure there was a trigger but it got me thinking about this lyric above. When I think about the writing of this line, I imagine the women of TLC sitting in the studio throwing out ideas of what kind of guy is pathetic to them. With each idea, I image a chorus of laughter. Then one of them came up with the idea of a man hanging out a car window hooting and hollaring at them. And then that gave birth to this lyric. Defintely not a true story but the fact that I thought about it so much means that there's some cleverness behind these words. Or I'm just crazy.

I don't want no scrub

A scrub is a guy that can't get no love from me

They lay it out here. A scrub is someone who they have no time for. A guy she won't even entertain. But what if you're not sure what a "scrub" is. They explain

Hanging out the passenger side
Of his best friend's ride
Trying to holler at me

These three lines deliver a strong visual because of the key details packed in the three lines. A scrub is not only a guy hanging out of a car but of course, he doesn't even have a car! He's in his friend's car. And he's weak because instead of approaching her like normally, he's just hollering at her, likely not being a getlemen.

Brilliant!
